A Place That Offers Help and Hope!

None of us here at Central Texas LifeCare wishes to see a 14 year old girl in a crisis pregnancy, but as we pray every day for God to send us the clients He wants us to see, we are prepared. One such client came in recently. She was a precious, albeit VERY, young 14 year who arrived with her mother one hot summer afternoon. As the volunteer Peer Counselor began to build a relationship with this client, whom we will call Sara, she began to reveal much about her life. Sara’s mother attended the appointment and indicated that she had been a former client of the pregnancy center and while the mother was certainly not condoning the 14 year old Sara’s behavior she was grateful that Sara was leaning towards choosing life for her baby inspite of tremendous pressure from the 14 year old FORMER boyfriend.

This young man was not ready to be a father he said and was insisting that Sara abort the baby so that he could continue to live as a 14 year old without the responsibilities of a child. Sara bravely stood her ground and made a decision to choose life for her unborn child, telling the boyfriend that just like she was already a mother, he was already a father, no matter what!!! Sara received the information and support she needed that day and a little more as this story continues. It seems that Sara and mom had been to another agency seeking help that day, and upon asking whether there was a place that could provide free services, the agency informed them that CTLC did, but maybe they did not want to go ‘there’ as ‘there’ was a religious place. Well of course they did, indicated mom! That is just the place we are looking for! A place that not only offers help, but HOPE!!! And so the divine appointment took place and the rest is history!

“I feel better about not having sex”… a quote from a student who heard the truth!

Abi Breeden is the Abstinence Director for CTLC. Abi has developed a unique Abstinence only program called, Life Choices. Abi and several volunteers have made presentations to numerous schools and churches. Life Choices is a dynamic program dedicated to providing current and applicable information on how to gain and maintain healthy relations while avoiding risky behaviors and the consequences of such behaviors. Why not schedule Abi to speak at your school or church? Contact Abi at abibreeden@centurytel.com. Following is an example of what can happens when students are told the truth about relationships:

I never thought I would have a student make a phone call during one of my presentations. However, this particular day, I was teaching high school students about the difference between love and infatuation. This young lady could not wait to find out whether her relationship was based on love or infatuation. She pulled out her phone, called her boyfriend on speaker phone, and, unfortunately, discovered their relationship was not based on love at all.

Students want to learn how to have healthy relationships, and maintain sexual integrity; they were eating this information up. Sadly, it seems as though they are not being taught these skills anywhere; they are not being held to a higher standard. It breaks my heart to see the perilous and disarrayed relationships of today’s youth. However, it gives me great joy and hope when I see thought patterns change after teaching one of my classes on abstinence and healthy relationships. After taking my class some students said “I felt I wasn’t alone. I learned that there are people out there that want the same things as I do. I want to wait until I am married”

“This class helped.” “I feel better about not having sex till marriage.” Hearing students rave about how they loved this class and will make better decisions because of what they learned is what gives me hope when it seems hopeless.
